Interview: Female Wrestler, Sydnee
How did you get your start in session wrestling?
I've done mixed martial arts for 5 years. Boxing being my specialty, I've actually had 2 amateur matches in which I won both. From there, I do a lot of fitness modeling and so one thing let to the next and I started wrestling. I just ran with it and I love it! Best job ever!
Do you have any inspirations in the business?
Amanda Latina has been my inspiration to get a kick-ass body. She's a bikini competitor who wins all the shows because she has the greatest ass of all time! But, after wrestling, and getting my but kicked I had to improve my skills so I took up BJJ training. I like the idea of Pro Style, but my heart is on the mat.
Where were you trained to wrestle?
I've been trained by Kenny Rayford who teaches at J-Sect and Tapout. Two of his most known fighters are Joey Gilbert who fought on The Top Contender and Kevin Randleman who fought on UFC. My other trainer who taught me these incredible boxing skills is Jacob Chavez who's most known fighter is title holder B.J. Gloves. I train with him at his own private gym.
How long have you been wrestling?
I have wrestled for almost 5 years now.
What's your favorite kind of wrestling session?
My favorite type of session is beat-downs. What can I say? I'm a big bully.
Any favorite coaches or mentors?
Jacob Chavez and Kenny Rayford have taught me everything I know! I have the utmost respect for them, they are the hardest working trainers and don't ever go easy on you in the ring. The best in the business!
What is your favorite style of wrestling?
I really love being able to mix in scissors with traditional Jiu Jitsu. I mean you would too if you had legs of steel like mine.
Do you prefer to do competitive or semi-competitive?
I personally enjoy competitive! What does semi mean? That word just isn't in my vocabulary. Go hard or go home!
What is your favorite move and finishing hold?
I love to start off by getting people in my guillotine, a move I'm very skilled at. I love to demolish my opponent with my lethal head scissor or neck breaking rear naked choke.
Any comments on your first match?
My first real boxing match, I just defeated the girl. She was real wild and just came at me full force swinging but I did what I trained to do. I punched her right up the middle and after getting socked in the face several times, the girl knew she'd better back off or it'd be light out! Goodnight. I won by decision. Wrestling on the other hand was a different story. I was tied up in knots and it really pissed me off. I knew I needed to train for this sport if I was going to be any good at it. And I never say no to a challenge.
With whom have you had your best match with?
So far with Steel Kittens and Ariel. She is the real deal.
Any major injuries?
Out of my 5 years of boxing, I never had any injuries except black eyes where my eye actually swelled shut. My worst injury involved alcohol and the dance floor. Broke my nose getting real extreme. Canít say I donít drink any more, Iím just more careful.
What is your training discipline?
I box twice a week, take a Jiu Jitsu class once a week, hit the weights 5 days a week, and run 15 flights of stairs several times a week. Gotta keep that booty poppin'.
What are your future plans or career goals?
I have an amazing ideaís that will blow your mind, but it's Top Secret so Shhhh....
What are your interests outside the ring?
I love to workout, travel, and dance!
What are your favorite hobbies?
